Mary Lue Holt, 86, passed away peacefully at Serenity Care Nursing Home in Butler, Missouri, on November 11, 2017. She was one of seven children born to Seth Buriel and Irene (Loftin) Dains on August 21, 1931. Mary spent her formative years living in the rural St. Clair County area, graduating from Rockville High School in 1947. Shortly after completing her education, she married the love of her life, Chester Holt on May 16, 1948, her husband of 51 years. To this union four daughters were born: Kathie, Kay, Karol, and Kelly.
Mary was a devoted housewife all of her life, raising her girls and taking care of the home. She was an incredibly devoted mother, who instilled the skills of life and independence into her children. She insisted upon her daughters getting a proper education, raising two teachers, a nurse, and a dietician. Apart from this, one of her favorite activities was singing. She enjoyed music of all kinds from the Beatles to Trace Adkins, but especially gospel. Traveling later in life remained one of her favorite activities. Alaska, Florida, and Branson were just a few highlights of her many journeys. Mary dedicated decades of service to the Hudson Hustlers 4-H club, taking on many roles and positions. Furthermore, Mary was a master seamstress, who proved incredibly creative and talented, making drapes, garments, and wedding dresses. Serving the Round Prairie Baptist Church where she was a lifetime baptized member remained very important to Mary; she volunteered as a cook and counselor at Camp Keirsey and dedicated many hours of her time to furthering Christ’s kingdom on earth. While Mary was quiet and reserved, everyone who knew her remarked that she had a heart of gold and such a sweet smile.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Seth and Irene Dains; her husband, Chester; daughter Kay Smith and an infant daughter, Bonita Sue; a grandson, Justin W. Stephan; and four brothers: Robert N., Willard “Bill”, Emmitt, and Clyde Dains.
She is survived by her daughters: Kathie (Dean) Fischer, Karol Stephan, and Kelly (Dean) Quick; nine grandchildren: Kendra (Lucas) Heinen, Kyle (Amy) Fischer, and Kellen (Jennifer) Fischer, Nathan Smith and Jessica (Benjamin) Doyle, and Derek Stephan, Nate (Amber) Quick, Zachary and Zoe Quick, who will miss her dearly; great-grand children: Ryan and Katie Malone, Sam, Maggie, Wesley and Daniel Heinen, Kyren Fischer, Caleb, Madisyn, and Brantlee Fischer, and Natalie Quick; siblings: Jay Dee Dains (Kathy), LaVerne Motley, and one sister-in-law Aileen Mitchell; along with many extended family members and good friends. Mary will be dearly missed by all of her friends and family.
