Genieve Mae Huenefeldt

( March 24, 1926 – March 30, 2018 )

Genieve M. Huenefeldt, age 92, of Clinton, passed away Friday, March 30, 2018 at Jefferson Gardens, Clinton. Visitation will be Thursday, April 5 from 6:00-8:00pm at Vansant-Mills Funeral Home, Clinton. Funeral service will be on Friday, April 6 at 11:00am at United Methodist Church, Clinton. Interment will follow at Englewood Cemetery, Clinton. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Bill and Genieve Huenefeldt Scholarship Fund at the Clinton United Methodist Church, Clinton, Missouri.

Genieve Hoppe Huenefeldt was born in Henry County, Clinton, Missouri to the late Walter Hoppe and Ruth (Glasscock) Hoppe Meredith on March 24, 1926 at the rural home of her grandparents Ed and Carrie Hoppe south of Clinton.  She graduated from Clinton High School in 1944 and was awarded a Bachelor of Science degree in 1951 from Central Missouri State College.  She began her teaching career at Manila, a one room rural school in Pettis County in 1947.  She was a devoted teacher who taught a total of 15 years in the Clinton and Hickman Mills public schools as a 1st grade and kindergarten teacher.  Her devotion to teaching continued as a Sunday school teacher in the various departments of the Clinton United Methodist Church.

In 1949 she married Bill Huenefeldt and they were blessed with two sons, Paul and Tommy.  They resided in this area except for a short time of living in Kansas City, Missouri.

She remained faithful to her community, to the schools, her church, the Henry County Library, the Dorman House, and the Henry County Museum all of her life.  She was a long time member of P.E.O. Chapter EN and served this sisterhood in various capacities.  Her faith sustained her through her illness.  She was a life long member of the Clinton United Methodist Church and a charter member of Terrace Lake Methodist Church in Kansas City, Missouri.

Genieve was very active in the Clinton community.  She served on various boards including the University of Missouri Extension Council, F.M.H.A. Department of Agriculture, Republican Committee, Women Fields Creek Township, and the Clinton Public Schools Board of Education  (one of the 1st women to be chairman of this board), Den Mother for her sons Boy Scout Troop 430.  Both sons are Eagle Scouts.

Genieve is survived by her two sons, Paul and Tom.
