Dorris Bryan Bock was born in Doerun, Georgia on May 8th 1932 she passed away May 30, 2018 at her home at the age of 86 years and 22 days.
Dorris was raised in Doerun, Georgia where she spent her time picking cotton and taking care of her little brothers. She spent her youth ditch jumping in a jeep and roller skating. In high school she was the forward for the basketball team who won the state championship all four years. After graduating high school she spent three years at Albany, Georgia Business School before meeting a handsome, young Air Force man named Claude D. Bock. Dorris was always Claude’s “Georgia Peach”. While Claude was stationed in Georgia the two married at Mt. Sinai Baptist Church on April 3, 1953. Before returning to Missouri they welcome their first of four daughters Sue. After Claude’s military career, they moved back to Appleton City to make their home on the farm. They welcomed 3 more daughters: Donna, Brenda, and Claudrea.
Dorris was saved at Mt. Sinai Baptist Church in Georgia and moved her membership to Harmony Baptist Church. She spent many years accompanying Claude to church as he was the superintendent of Sunday school. She was a faithful member of the Women’s Missionary Union, and always helped with Bible school until her hearing began to fail. After that she would stay home and prepare a wonderful Sunday meal for the family while listening to the First Baptist Church of Clinton on the radio. Dorris was always Claude’s extra set of eyes in the combine and tractor cab, rarely ever missing a day to accompany him to the field. She also loved to mow.
Dorris was known to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren as Mammy. There wasn’t much she enjoyed more than seeing her kids. She always looked forward to spending time with them and giving them whatever they needed and wanted. She loved to read newspapers, listen to news reports, cook for her family and watch her Christian and dancing programs. She never missed a night talking on the phone to her daughters and sisters-in-law. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Mammy is welcomed to heaven by her husband, Claude D. Bock; her infant daughter, Claudrea Kaye; her parents, Murray & Zola Bryan; two sisters, Lula May and Mary Monkey and two brothers, Clyde Jr. & Tommy.
