Russell ‘Joe’ Harrelson, age 75, of Clinton, died Sunday, October 23, 2016 at St. Luke’s Hospital, Kansas City.
Joe was born on April 14, 1941 to Emmett Ray Harrelson and Ella Marie ‘Halsey’ Harrelson of Clinton, MO. After graduating from high school, he served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Upon his return he married Jerene Peck on February 14, 1964. Joe and Jerene made their home in Clinton. He went to work for GM in Kansas City, retiring in 1992. Joe was a member of the United Auto Workers Union Local 93, the Henry County Fox Hunter’s Association and the United Methodist Church. Years ago, Joe was very active in The Saddle Club, United Way, Golden Valley Squares, Campfire, Cub Scouts and was a volunteer at the Henry County Museum.
Survivors include his wife, Jerene of the home; two children, Janette (Todd) Pogue of Clinton and Jared (Melissa) Harrelson of Clinton; five grandchildren, Andy, Alaina, Grace, Weston, and Katy; one sister, Wanda (Chuck) Packer; two brothers, Ralph (Mary Lou) Harrelson and Larry (Sharon) Harrelson; one sister-in-law, Gloria Adkison; three brothers-in-law, Dewey (Martha) Peck, Don Peck and Ron (Teresa) Peck; his father-in-law, Glen Peck; and many other family and friends.
Preceding him in death were his parents; three brothers, Gene Harrelson, Bill Harrelson and Don Harrelson; and one sister, Juanita Cooper.
The family will receive visitors at 1:00 PM on Saturday, October 29, 2016 at Consalus Funeral Home, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM. Interment will follow at the Vansant Road Cemetery, Clinton.
The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Vansant Road Cemetery Fund and left in care of Consalus Funeral Home, 209 S. 2nd St., Clinton, MO 64735.
