Anna L. Cowan, age 94 of Clinton (formerly of Urich), died at Golden Living, Westwood, on December 11, 2016.
Anna was born December 21, 1921 to William Cowan and Edna ‘Simpson’ Cowan of Urich, MO. After graduating from high school, she attended Central Missouri State College in Warrensburg, MO where she received her Bachelor of Education in 1945. Then, Anna attended Southern Baptist Seminary in Louisville, KY where she received her Master’s in Religious Education in 1948. Anna went to work as a Foreign Missionary for the Southern Baptist Convention’s Mission Board, serving in Israel. She took a furlough from her mission work and taught school south of Urich and in Norris for a few years before going to work at the Missouri Baptist Children’s Home in St. Louis from 1952-1954. Anna then returned to the Middle Eastern countries of Israel, Lebanon and Jordan to finish her missionary service. When she would come home on furlough, she would take classes at Center Missouri State University. Anna received her Master’s in Education in 1976. She retired from the mission field in 1987. Anna was a member of the Urich Baptist Church and an active member of the Women’s Missionary Union.
Preceding her in death were her parents; a sister, Evelyn; and a brother, George.
The family will receive visitors at 1:00 PM Thursday, December 15, 2016 at the Urich Baptist Church. A funeral service will commence at 2:00 PM, followed by interment at Urich Cemetery.
The family has requested that memorial contributions be made to Urich Baptist Church and may be left in care of Consalus Funeral Home, 209 S. 2nd St., Clinton, MO 64735.
